YELLOW MEANS MONEY

I just found out that in some parts of Latin America people wear underwear to signify their New Years resolution. Red means love. Yellow means money. Yellow oversells red by miles. One can only hope that when the economy turns around red will take the lead again. Personally, I also hope the colours used on the bras and boxers are non toxic. People are getting bigger and with us grows the bra size. Breasts, mostly made up of fat tissue, are among the few body parts where bigger has been better in recent times. So what`s the news? Some months ago, there was an article in New York Times about men`s underwear being an indicator of economy. In tough times men apparently stretch the life span of their underwear to cut costs. The article compares it to the Mosquito Bite Theory where homes emptied by foreclosures or short sales are raided by mosquitoes attracted by algal swimming pools and untrimmed grasses. Beware neighbourhoods with itchy, irritated inhabitants. The Underpants Theory did not mention women`s lingerie. Women are keen to support the economy by spending as they used to. Are they the stabilizing factor preventing the economy from collapsing? A month later, the same paper published an article indicating that plain white briefs are back. Men are apparently getting tired of complicated pop art prints and bright colours. They are no longer willing to be walking around with the fashion brands` name boldly printed around 2 inch waistband. They go for the plain cotton briefs in multipacks. The good old cotton brief is back, sometimes in improved quality. The logical conclusion?

A: The economy is to men what weather is to women. Hard times? Bring on the discounted plain white cotton briefs.

B: Mosquitoes are attracted to bright colours so men are trying to avoid bites by avoiding them.

BIG PANTS ARE BACK!
